To better serve you, the NACDS Foundation is improving this website. Look for the complete site in early March. Until then, here is the information that you may need on some of the NACDS Foundation's new and popular initiatives.
The NACDS Foundation is currently accepting proposals to study what is termed "primary medication non-adherence (PMN)," which occurs when a patient fails to fill or pick-up their newly prescribed prescription medication. The NACDS Foundation has set aside funding for qualified researchers to measure PMN rates, and to develop, test and evaluate the effectiveness of PMN interventions in the community pharmacy setting. All proposals must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday March 15, 2011.

The NACDS Foundation has announced the availability of $1.5 million in grants to expand the capacity of Community Pharmacy Residencies for recent pharmacy school graduates. The Project seeks to provide funding to create 30 new community pharmacy residency positions with grants to non-profit academic institutions totaling $50,000 each. Fifteen grants are available in 2011.
The NACDS Foundation established a two track system for Community PREP grant applicants:

The NACDS Foundation recognizes the important role that community pharmacy faculty play in preparing students for careers as healthcare providers in community pharmacy, as well as advancing the practice of community pharmacy.
The NACDS Foundation, with support from Pfizer, established an award to recognize a pharmacy school faculty member (full time or shared faculty) who has made significant contributions to the practice of community pharmacy through innovations in patient care. The award will be presented annually at the NACDS Pharmacy & Technology Conference.

The education of pharmacy students continues to shift away from the classroom and into real world practice sites. Practicing pharmacists are increasingly being called on to serve as preceptors for students as experiential education accounts for nearly one third of the total pharmacy curriculum. These preceptors play an invaluable role in educating, developing and mentoring future healthcare providers.
With Apotex's support, the NACDS Foundation has established an award to recognize a pharmacy preceptor who has made significant contributions to the education of pharmacy students through Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations in a community pharmacy setting.
These contributions could include:
The community pharmacy preceptor chosen for this award will receive a $5,000 stipend, given to the school/college of pharmacy of choice designated by the award recipient to fund future patient care projects or research. The recipient will receive a travel stipend to cover round trip, coach class airfare, two nights lodging, as well as complimentary registration to attend the NACDS Pharmacy & Technology Conference, where the recipient will be publicly recognized during an award presentation.
In addition to the first place recipient, two runners-up may be selected as "Shining Stars." The preceptors receiving this distinction will be awarded a certificate to recognize their achievement and a $1,000 stipend given to the school/college of pharmacy of his or her choice.
The nomination for this award may be from a dean, department head, colleague, student, community practitioner, community pharmacy employer or executive, or a self-nomination.
